Known in France as Fête des Pères, young children often show appreciation for their fathers by making crafty items, such as ties and bow ties made out of paper and cardboard picture frames made from cereal boxes. Older children, like those in the U.S., will often buy their father a gift that they know hed  love. Needless to say, Fathers Day is the perfect opportunity to show your dad how much you appreciate  all that he does for you. And if you want to celebrate this holiday in the French fashion, you will need this  French vocabulary for Father’s Day to show your father how much care you for him! French Words  to Describe Your Family Just like in English, the French have two words to describe fathers. Père is the French equivalent of father,. The less formal version (or the same as the English word “dad”) is actually one that we often use in English: papa. It is just one of the many words that the English language has borrowed  from French. When a father talks about his children, he refers to his son as mon fils. For a daughter, he will say ma fille. Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within its bounds.Dr. King feels that they should wait for justice patiently to come to all states and countries. (T/F)You deplore the demonstrations taking place in Birmingham. But your statement, I am sorry to say, fails to express a similar concern for the conditions that brought about the demonstrations. I am sure that none of you would want to rest content with the superficial kind of social analysis that deals merely with effe cts and does not grapple with underlying causes. It is unfortunate that demonstrations are taking place in Birmingham, but it is even more unfortunate that the citys white power structure left the Negro community with no alternative.What reasons does Dr. King give for the demonstration?In any nonviolent campaign there are four basic steps: collection of the facts to determine whether injustices exist; negotiation; self purification; and direct action. We have gone through all these steps in Birmingham. There can be no gainsaying the fact that racial injustice engulfs this community. Birmingham is probably the most thoroughly segregated city in the United States. Its ugly record of brutality is widely known. Negroes have experienced grossly unjust treatment in the courts. There have been more unsolved bombings of Negro homes and churches in Birmingham than in any other city in the nation. These are the hard, brutal facts of the case. On the basis of these conditions, Negro leaders so ught to negotiate with the city fathers. Preparing for a Skype Interview By Kathryn StewartIf you are interested in teaching overseas, you will eventually need to interview with administrators or a principal from your potential school. With many of Teach Away’s partner schools, this interview will be over Skype. For those who have never had an interview over Skype, here are some tips to ensure you have the best interview possible.Online Information: Your Skype profile photo, Skype name, and status will be the first things the interview team sees prior to speaking with you. Make sure that these are professional â€" having a separate Skype   account for professional contacts is a great idea.Background: As you aren’t able to meet your potential colleague or supervisor in person, keep in mind that your first impression will extend beyond what you are wearing or how your hair looks.   Your webcam will also show your living or working space. Make sure your area is tidy! A plain background is ideal, as that will allow the interviewer to focus on you instead of trying to decipher your choice of artwork in the background.Technical Preparedness: If you are new to Skype, try a practice run with a friend or your Teach Away placement coordinator before your interview. Use your webcam and microphone to make sure that everything is in good working order. On the day of your interview, we recommend that you are online and ready to go at least 15 minutes prior to your interview time.Acting Naturally: It can be difficult to “be yourself” while on camera. Try to stay as natural as possible, and remember all the points of an in-person interview: for example, making eye contact with the person you are speaking to. You don’t need to act differently in a Skype interview, just make sure that you are being seen and heard on the webcam.On the subject of eye contact, however, making eye contact through a webcam is a little more difficult than in person. Remember that your interviewer’s “eyes” are actually the camera! Try to look into the camera as much as possible, instead of staring directly at your screen.Patience: Sometimes Skype will cut in and out, or it can be difficult to see or hear the person on the other side.   From time to time you may even need to stop the call and try again. Try to be patient!Flexibility:   It is unlikely that your potential employer will be in the same time zone - your interview may be scheduled at a time early in the morning, or late in the evening. It can seem stressful to volunteer while also studying for standardized exams, writing college personal statements, and taking advanced placement classes, However; volunteerism is a great way to discover valuable information about college and career. Students can take the opportunity to experiment in a few different areas or put their focus towards one particular field. Because the academic year can be so time-consuming, summer is an excellent opportunity to gain a lot of those volunteer credits and start building the student resume. 1.Making a difference within the community Students who volunteer over the summer will have a great opportunity to make a difference within their local community. This can lead to a lot of self-satisfaction and a feeling of productivity that can build self-esteem and help set priorities for the future. If a student has a particular talent or if theyre interested in a specific cause, they are encouraged to see if volunteer opportunities exist in the area. Unlike school work, students get to choose which volunteer programs they participate in (READ: 5 Things to Do Before You Leave For College). 2. Networking and letters of reference Summer volunteerism can also result in some awesome networking opportunities that can help students later on when they want to apply to college or get a part-time job. Students can talk to professionals in the field and in their community as well as potential future classmates. Students who are serious about volunteering will also build a great student resume and have a better chance of getting into the college of their choice. When students start their volunteer commitment, they are encouraged to introduce themselves to each adult member of the team and ask what would be most helpful. This is a great ice-breaker and lets the other volunteers know that the student is serious about pitching in and being a helpful member of the team. 3. Exploring potential career fields For the most part, high school-aged students dont know exactly what they would like to do for their career. A great way to explore potential fields in a low-risk environment is to arrange for summer volunteer work. Students can get a taste of what working in that field might be like without committing to an internship or job. This is a great situation for students to either get excited about a possible field or perhaps eliminate certain opportunities that werent as interesting as they had originally thought. 4. Practice professionalism It can be a challenge to adjust from being a full-time high school student to exhibiting the professionalism required to work in an internship at college as well as during the college interview process. Volunteerism is a fabulous way to start practicing professionalism while gaining high school graduation credits. It takes a lot of effort and patience to communicate and interact as a professional, so its a great idea to develop some of these skills before getting to college (READ: Getting your community service credits). 5. Get recommendations from teachers In some cases, classroom teachers will arrange volunteer opportunities and invite students to join who they think will be a good fit for the service project. If this is the case, its a great way for students to develop a community service oriented relationship with that teacher and give them something to write about when theyre asked for a recommendation later on. Teachers only provide recommendations to students they know well and who they think will succeed in the college environment so its great if students can let them know theyre serious about college and their community. SAT Prep Not a nightmare. The SAT may seem daunting (definition:seeming difficult to deal with in anticipation; intimidating), but I promise you that the SAT is a lot easier than it seems! It simply requires patience and self-discipline.Here is some advice that people have given on the SAT. Hope you guys enjoy!Critical reading:Every time I didn’t know a vocab word, I would write it down on a piece of looseleaf whether it was from the passages or the fill ins.Learn the meanings of some prefixes and suffixes, and several or more common roots of words (again, depending on time). This means if you come across words you don’t know, you can make a good guess.Do not try to cram vocabulary two weeks in advance. The words aren’t obscure enough to justify that.GETHOT WORDS FOR THE SAT($2.53 for a used copy on Amazon). ALL OF THE WORDS ON MY TEST WERE IN THAT BOOK.Memorize the grammar rules. There's about 10 of them.Math:I highly 150% recommend getting your hands on a graphing calculator if you don’t have one. G et one off your friend or rent one or something, but get one.You also don’t need to memorize formulas for anything because you can get a program that’ll do anything with formulas for you.During the SATs you’re allowed to bring in a calculator with programs. DO NOT WASTE THIS OPPORTUNITY. But don’t waste precious time using a program when you could use your head and be faster.Even when going over your mistakes, make sure you understand how to do every single problem.I think math is all about practice, so just do as much as you can.Writing:Pick a side. Don’t try to be all smart and argue both. You think you can, and you’re probably right, but your argument will be a lot more nuanced and well-supported (which is a chunk of the mark) if you choose one side.You don’t need to worry about actually forming an argument supported by evidence. Spend 2 minutes planning and come up with exactly 3 points. In each paragraph, make your point and then bam, you’re good to go. You know why? Because you make up examples. Whatever you want- Make up dates! Make up people! Make up absolute shit that the graderknowsisn’t true! I mean, try not to write 500 words on how Shakespeare’s most famous play, ‘Roly-poly Ollie and Julianne Moore’, changed your life, but. Make up books, plays, personal anecdotes, whatever. It does not matter. You can do that.
